This past week, 4 new candidates have announced their campaign for The Woodlands Township Director.
Linda Nelson - Against Incorporation
Key Callouts:
Linda is a current Preserve The Woodlands Advisory Board member. She’s proud to have fought to keep The Woodlands from becoming incorporated in the Fall of 2021. She’ll continue that fight in November.
The Woodlands has been a perfect place to live and raise a family. Linda Nelson aims to keep it that way.
“My husband and I have lived in The Woodlands for the past 30 years. I’ve been fortunate enough to raise a family and build my career here. It has been an honor to serve my community and I look forward to continuing to do so in this new effort to be elected Township Director.” - Linda Nelson
Richard Franks - Against Incorporation
Key Callouts:
Richard isn’t a career politician. He’s one of us and The Woodlands is his home. He understands our community and is ready to listen to residents’ ideas and concerns.
After his military service, he earned his Master’s Degree in Public Administration, and then served as a city administrator in the Midwest. He later owned and operated several communications and print media companies across the United States. He and Pamela ultimately chose The Woodlands as their home.
“I love The Woodlands. I’ve always been active in my community, and when the incorporation fight came up last year, I just could not sit back and let them change this beautiful community. I fought hard alongside my neighbors to defeat incorporation and strongly believe we need real representation on the Board, representation that listens to the residents.” - Richard Franks
Kyle Watson - Against Incorporation
Key Callouts:
Kyle Watson was instrumental in helping protect The Woodlands from becoming incorporated in the Fall of 2021. He is running now to keep that fight alive and bring real representation to The Woodlands Township.
Kyle is a practicing business and commercial litigation lawyer with Winstead PC and is an equity shareholder in Winstead’s Business Litigation, Energy, and Financial Services Litigation Practice Groups.
“The Township Board of Directors must be a place for those who truly listen to residents and care about what the people of The Woodlands want and need.”
“I was disturbed by how some of the current directors ignored a large majority of residents who told them there was no reason to pursue incorporation, and certainly no rush to place it on an off-year ballot at the last moment.” - Kyle Watson
Brad Bailey - Against Incorporation
Key Callouts:
Brad understands The Woodlands is a truly special place to live and work – and he’ll do everything in his power to keep it that way. Brad will work to preserve The Woodlands for our children and grandchildren.
He also serves on the board of directors of the Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) of Texas representing the ABC of Greater Houston area.
“The Woodlands has been a wonderful place for my family. I feel blessed to call this community home, and if elected, I will work diligently to preserve our way of life. I passionately believe that the role of elected officials is to listen to their constituency and, in turn, act with their will as guidance in governing. By doing this, we can provide better representation for The Woodlands for years to come.” - Brad Bailey
🧿 The trend appears to be strong candidates openly AGAINST Incorporating The Woodlands. Candidates may file an application to appear on the ballot for one of the designated positions between July 23, 2022, and 5 p.m. on August 22, 2022. The deadline for filing a declaration of a write-in candidacy is 5 p.m. on August 26, 2022. Based on my observations, the eyes of the Woodlands residents were opened this past off cycle election year in 2021 where the final vote was:
FOR - ~32%
AGAINST - ~68%
